Duluth Kickoff
From LightTheHighway
Duluth, MN. October 26-27
A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray. Isaiah 35:8
The work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us. Nehemiah 4: 19-20

Additional Information about the Duluth Weekend
- Spiritual Mapping of Duluth and the Encounter Building
The history of the Encounter Building is very significant - it was purchased from the Shriners in Duluth in about 2003 and the Highway of Holiness Kickoff will be held in the main auditorium where the Shriners used to hold their ceremonies. However, this land and building has been redeemed for the Holy purposes of God. Also the location of the Encounter Building is across the street from a memorial that has been built on the site of the historical Duluth Lynchings in 1920.
Wikopedia: The Duluth Lynchings of 1920 occurred when three black circus workers were attacked and lynched by a mob in Duluth, Minnesota. Rumors had circulated among the mob that six African Americans had raped and killed a local girl. The girl was later found to be alive, and a physician's examination found no evidence of rape or assault. The killings shocked the country, particularly for their having occurred in the northern United States. In 2003, the city of Duluth erected a memorial to the murdered workers.
- Ministry Opportunities during the Kickoff Weekend
Our location will be right downtown Duluth in the Encounter Building and this is where the youth gather in Duluth. They hold a number of events and concerts at the Encounter building also. In fact on Friday evenings there are many youth in the the lower level of the building where they have built an indoor skate park in order to draw the youth. We have invited them for the whole evening.
There is also a tradition in the Harbor area called "The Ship of Ghouls". Thousands of people come to Duluth that last 2 weekends of October for this and a ship in the Harbor is transformed into a huge Haunted Ship in celebration of Halloween. One pastor in Duluth is very involved in Evangelism during this time - his name is Dan Stone (smstone@cfaith.com) from Jesus is Life Church in Duluth.
